Become an early tester

Five steps to get Hound running on your own iPhone before it's on the App Store — no TestFlight needed.

The Hound team does this You do this
  1. 1

You get invited to the Expo team

    Team

We'll send an invite to your email from expo.dev.

If you don't have an Expo account yet, accepting it walks you through creating one.

  2. 2

    Register your device

    You

On the iPhone you'll actually use for testing, open this link and follow the prompts:

Open it in Safari, on that exact device — it registers that phone's UDID, so forwarding the link elsewhere won't work.

  3. 3

We rebuild with your device included

    Team

Once you've registered, we kick off a new build so the provisioning profile picks up your device:

eas build --profile preview --platform ios

A device registered after the last build was never in that build's profile — only a fresh build picks it up.

  4. 4

    You get the install link

    Team

When the build finishes, we'll send you its install link or QR code.

Open it on the same registered iPhone and install directly — still no App Store involved.

  5. 5

    Turn on Developer Mode

    You

The first time you try to open Hound, iOS blocks it — since iOS 16, any app installed outside the App Store needs Developer Mode on.

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode, toggle it on, then tap Restart when prompted.

After the restart, one more confirmation appears — enter your passcode and tap Turn On. Hound opens normally from then on, for this and every future build.

Worth knowing

  • This is iOS-only. Android testers just need the build's APK/AAB link — no device registration step.
  • One registration lasts as long as it stays in our Apple provisioning — you won't need to re-register for every new build, only the first one after you join.
  • Registering ≠ installing. Step 2 only adds you to the guest list — nothing installs until the rebuild in step 3 finishes.
